Official Android Twitter client released, but only for Android 2.1
The official Twitter client for Android has been released, and it’s quite a solid app. Sadly, it only works on Android 2.1.
According to TechCrunch, this means that only 27.3% of Android users can download the app. Fortunately, there are still other solid choices out there such as a Twidroid or Seesmic.
Personally, I’ll be sticking with Seesmic (for now) regardless. The new Twitter app is shiny, but is missing some key features. In particular, it only supports a single account, and it doesn’t remember your location in the timeline from previous loads.
On the flip side it offers contact list integration, similar to Facebook. For now, I’ll let Twitter handle the contact integration, but I’ll be using Seesmic for keeping up with the service when I’m mobile. Still, the official Twitter app is a solid effort for an initial release, and I expect it will improve quickly.
