Installing Android apps on SD cards now officially “coming soon”

Google said that it was coming eventually, and now we’re a bit closer.  The ability to install Android apps onto your SD card is “coming soon”.

According to a Google employee:

Apologies, but I’m not permitted to disclose scheduling information – suffice to say it’s coming soon Sorry for being vague, and thank you for your continued patience – I sincerely appreciate it.

For those of you needing to free up some internal space, this is certainly good news. The problems have apparently been security-related (not allowing users to purchase paid apps on the card and share them with friends), which Google seems to have nearly worked out.

There’s no telling if it’s coming in Android 2.2 or in a later release, but it’s getting closer…
