As we all know Google is the best search engine and that it is compatible with mobile interface also. It works with the equally fast speed with an advanced website of mobile search. Without launching the Android application, the latest website of Google provides instant access to find out the nearby restaurants, ATMs, shops and other places of attraction just by tapping the specified icon for each type of place. This website is an advanced form of Google Places.

Besides this, Query Builder is another feature that is a faster way to complete your search. There is a “+” icon on the Google homepage which on tapping will provide the possible suggestions for the search. This will reduce typing by saving the search time also. Although some development is still required but the present concept works successfully and efficiently.

However, Google needs to incorporate these features in the Android’s in built search function so that the android users are benefited with the short cut methods of searching. If Google can come up with the updated version for the tablets, then that can give better search results for images which will appear good on big screens.

Just two days after Grandmaster G released the source code for Gingerbread, Android 2.3 ROMs have flooded the place. The Nexus One received one quite early, and thereafter Samsung Galaxy S too received Gingerbread via some Nexus S firmware port.

Now, an astonishingly stable Android 2.3 ROM has appeared for the HTC Desire, thanks to AdamG at XDA. Gingerbread Oxygen v2.0 happens to be a pre-beta launch. However, it seems to be the most stable customized Android 2.3 ROM for any handset till date. Almost everything functions: Wi-Fi, GPS, voice and the camera too. However, the ball will start rolling only after Nexus One receives an official upgrade of Android 2.3.

The first impression I had about Gingerbread: I fell in love with the new black menu and I don’t think that the screen off animation could get any better and funnier. So, all those who have a Desire with root access and wish to check out the newest version of the most preferred mobile OS, just pay XDA developers a visit. You can easily go back to the earlier setup whenever you want to, if you choose to get a backup with Clockworkmod prior to flashing your Gingerbread ROM.

The long awaited Gingerbread release is out, along with a plethora of user and developer oriented features:

Better user interface (UI): Colors and interfaces across the OS are more consistent and the overall background color is now black instead of white.

Multitouch keyboard: The keyboard has been enhanced to allow faster, more accurate touch typing at high speeds and now supports multitouch. Users can also use the shift key to type numbers without having to switch to an alternate screen. Selecting words and copying/pasting is also more intuitive

Power management: Battery life has become a big problem for some Android users, as rogue apps will continue to hog CPU and data in the background. This is being addressed. Android 2.3 should better manage applications and how much power they use. The “manage applications” section will also be easier to get to and better show the storage and memory being used by apps.

VOIP: Making calls over the Internet, or Voice Over IP, will be an integrated feature. This feature will likely be disabled by carriers.

Near-field communications: This is the new hot thing. It will allow you to use your phone as a credit card by swiping it about four inches from a wireless reader. It will only be as useful as the number of places that adopt NFC technology.

Camera: Since Android phones will all now come with a front-facing camera as well, users can now access it and take pictures of their own face whenever they want.

Games: A number of technical enhancements have been made so that games can use the CPU and graphics capabilities more effectively, as well as motion detection and other fancy effects. Engadget has found that the OS seems to support PlayStation-like controls, if a device happens to have A,B,C, L1, L2, R1, or R2 gaming buttons on it. No such devices currently exist, but it lends weight to the PlayStation phone rumor.

Multimedia: 2.3 comes with audio mixing capabilities for developers and possibly users as well, allowing you to spruce up how your audio sounds on the device. It also supports more video and audio types, such as VP8, AAC, WebM, and AMR.

In case you are an Android fan, you must have been eagerly waiting for the next in line Google Android OS iteration, Gingerbread, to be announced. Well, we have spotted it making its way to the Googleplex, and heard all the chatter surrounding it on Twitter etc. and now, the time is ripe for the actual deal.

Into Mobile is of the opinion that on 6th December, Andy Rubin of Google will be appearing at D: Dive Into Mobile Conference. He has said that the details of Gingerbread would be announced in the next few weeks, and the date seems to be very promising for the upcoming announcement. It’s already been over six months since the last Android launch, so it is very likely that Google might have some good news in the pipeline.

Everyone has been speculating that Gingerbread would be bringing vast improvements to Android’s UI along with an easy to use OS, and most people are trying hard not get very excited about these new iterative updates. Considering the fact that this is just a “point” upgrade (from 2.2 to 2.3), it is really doubtful that we are to witness at a wholly overhauled UI. It will be more sensible if Honeycomb brings it as 3.0, but then Honeycomb is more geared towards tablets, while Gingerbread is all about phones.

Whatever be the case, we will soon see what Google has in store for us. Besides, if you don’t own a Nexus One, there is a slim chance you will be seeing any official Gingerbread upgrade for a few months.

There is a lot of excitement about the latest and much awaited Google Android release. It has been code-named Gingerbread, and is expected to hit the markets soon. The latest version of Android is to offer more interactivity with the actual world.

Yesterday, Google’s chief executive, Eric Schmidt was quoted at a Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco saying that Gingerbread might wipe out the need to carry credit cards while shopping or travelling. You can simply walk into a store and use the new near-field communication technology of Android for relevant information, tailored for the owner. Apparently, it also reduces the risks of identity theft and fraud, as both the handset and the owner are required to be present for making a payment.

In addition, he also explains how the new device can revolutionize the entire e-commerce industry. It promises to make the users more well-informed and their shopping experience easier by providing the Android users with all the information on the nearby stores, no matter where they are.

Although the technology sounds really incredible and is actually worth exploring as an alternative mode of payment for store purchases, we do have doubts regarding the security and simplicity of using it as against credit cards. What if it gets lost? Unfortunately, Schmidt had nothing to say about its improved security features at the Summit.
Yet, if Gingerbread succeeds, it will be quite an interesting step, completely transforming the way its users make purchases.

We’ve seen a lot of posts recently declaring that Android 2.2 is rolling out to Nexus One users, but I think we’ve jumped the gun.

A few days ago, Techcrunch posted that 2.2 was rolling out. However, hours later, virtually no one else had received the update. Google later confirmed that the rollout was in progress, but now some other details have emerged.

As many had begun to expect, the initial rollout was for a small test group only. They’re still working out the final bugs before it goes out to a wider audience. According to Justin Mattson, “We expect a final build to be available for OTA updates shortly, stay tuned!’

“Shortly” could mean a lot of things, but I’d expect we’ll see the official rollout begin later this week. I certainly hope we do, as I’m dying to get some Froyo on my Nexus!

We’ve been talking about Android 2.2 for a few months now, and it’s finally been unveiled by Google.

As expected, Android 2.2 is all about speed and wow, it looks fast. It’s expected to rolled out starting in June. The Nexus One will certainly get it, and some have said that the Motorola Droid will get it very early too. Many other phones will be getting it later in the year.

Here is the official video showing off what’s new:

For a more in-depth look, jkOnTheRun has a video walk-through that shows off many of the new features:

Once I get my hands on 2.2 I’ll be sure to post with more thoughts about it.

Many carriers distribute custom builds of Android, and those will almost certainly have restrictions on the tethering. But what about phones that run the stock version of Android, like the Nexus One and the Motorola Droid?

We expect a ton of news about Android 2.2 to come out at Google I/O next week, and we’ll keep you posted on everything we learn.

If you’re an Eris owner, be sure to back up all of your important data before the upgrade begins. Here’s hoping that the schedule holds true and those Eris owners can finally get the upgrade.

You can read about the upgrade on the Verizon site, and hopefully it’ll be pushed out soon. As Phandroid points out, the Verizon information never actually says the words “Android 2.1″, which is quite odd. However, the list of features that they include indicate that it’s certainly 2.1, so that’s a very positive sign.

If we hear of a timeframe for the release of this update, we’ll be sure to let you know.
