Android Market approaching 50,000 apps

We all know that the total number of apps available for a particular phone isn’t a great metric, as app quality is really what matters.  However, since it’s difficult to quantify “quality”, the total number of apps is a decent way to go.

While Apple still has a significant lead in total number of apps, Android is making up ground.  According to the most recent stats on AndroLib (which is certainly unofficial), the total number of available Android apps is now over 47,000.  It sure seems likely that Google will announce “more than 50,000 apps” at the Google I/O conference next month.  We’ll see…
